The vasectomy procedure
Recovery after a vasectomy
In post vasectomy reviews, my patients hardly ever mention pain. In fact, about 50% of my patients do not take paracetamol following the procedure. Chronic pain is pain that is ongoing for years following vasectomy. While chronic pain is listed as a potential risk of vasectomy in several reports, this has not been reported by any of my patients or the patients of my colleagues.
The biggest concern following vasectomy is a bleed into the scrotum. This is not dangerous but will cause discomfort. There is always a small risk of this complication, which is why we ask men to rest and wear tight underwear for 48 hours following your procedure. It is unlikely that you will get an infection post procedure, this has not been seen in the past 20 years. My patients have also never reported chronic pain.
